If he is again selected in lieu of Vito Mannone, this will be Anssi
Jaakkola’s fourth attempt at keeping a league clean sheet. Positional
rival Mannone last kept a clean sheet on January 13.

Players to watch: With an equaliser at Barnsley in his last match, Josh
Murphy inadvertently did Reading a favour where the relegation battle is
concerned. In this match, his pace on the ball could make life difficult
for the visitors.

After watching Reading limply surrender to champions-elect Wolves in
their last outing, Royals manager Stam said: “At Norwich on Saturday, we
need to be braver going forward, keeping that ball, creating
opportunities and scoring goals. You always want to win and I am fed up
with losing.”

The Royals’ own winless streak, however, is longer still than that of
their hosts. They haven’t tasted victory in eight outings, or kept a
clean sheet in 11. Reading also have some psychological baggage from
their last visit to Carrow Road, which ended in a 7-1 win for Norwich –
Reading’s heaviest loss since January 1968.

Stat attack: Expect goals – each of the last six encounters between
these sides has seen both teams score AND produce a total of over 2.5
goals.

With no win in seven for Norwich, Reading simply have to take the
initiative. Candidly speaking, most of the Norwich squad appear to have
one eye on their summer holidays. The Canaries are winless in seven, and
have conceded first in five of those matches.

In addition to the above, four of Reading’s last five matches have
produced over 2.5 goals.

Reading can take some encouragement from their record in away games
where they have led at half time. It doesn’t happen often, but they have
made half-time away leads count, taking seven points from a possible
nine when leading at the break on hostile turf.

As the team in danger, Reading take the spotlight for this one – for all
the wrong reasons. A Reading win, combined with favourable results for
them in other matches, could see Jaap Stam’s men open up a nine-point
gap between themselves and the drop zone.
